SUMMARY:Open Houses - Guided Tours
DESCRIPTION:Sunday\, April 26\, marks the return of “Palazzi Aperti\,” the fourth event in a packed calendar that opens the city’s most beautiful historic residences to the public. \nThe highlight of the day is the Church of San Filippo (Via Cavour)\, which has just reopened to the public following extensive post-earthquake restoration work: Guided tours (every 30 minutes from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.) will allow visitors to once again admire one of L’Aquila’s Baroque gems\, now restored to the community. \nThis day will allow you to visit\, in a single itinerary\, the two main gems of L’Aquila’s Baroque architecture: the Church of San Filippo andthe Oratory of Sant’Antonio dei Cavalieri de Nardis (Via San Marciano). Both are linked to the figure of the Venerable Baldassarre de Nardis\, founder of the Congregation of the Oratory in L’Aquila: after his death\, the community he had established built the Church of San Filippo\, while his grandchildren\, inspired by his example\, built the Oratory of Sant’Antonio. A spiritual and artistic thread unites these two most significant Baroque buildings in the historic center. \nAlongside guided tours of Palazzo Alfieri\, Palazzo Benedetti\, and the Oratory of the Knights of Nardis\, contemporary art and photography engage in a dialogue with the city’s historic architecture: at Palazzo Ciccozzi (13 Via Indipendenza)\, Spazio Indipendenza presents *Cantiere artistico* by Generoso Spagnuolo (10 a.m.–1 p.m. and 2:30–5:30 p.m.); at Le Cancelle (Via Simeonibus)\, WelcomeAQ Gallery presents *Fotografia Oltre* by Danilo Susi (10 a.m.–1 p.m. and 3–6 p.m.). \nDAILY SCHEDULE\nGUIDED TOURS \n\nChurch of San Filippo (Via Cavour) Guided tours every 30 minutes from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. (The church has just reopened to the public following the completion of post-earthquake restoration work)\nOratory of the Knights of Nardis (Via San Marciano) 3:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m .\nPalazzo Alfieri (Via Fortebraccio\, 54) 3:00 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.\nPalazzo Benedetti (Via Sassa\, 15) 3:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.\n\nReservations required: tinyurl.com/palazziaperti \nEXHIBITIONS AND SELF-GUIDED TOURS \n\nPalazzo Ciccozzi (Via Indipendenza\, 13) From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Self-guided tour of the exhibition *Cantiere artistico* by Generoso Spagnuolo\, curated by Spazio Indipendenza\nLe Cancelle (Via Simeonibus) From 10 a.m . to 1 p.m. and from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Self-guided tour of the exhibition *Fotografia Oltre* by Danilo Susi\, curated by WelcomeAQ Gallery\n\nThroughout the day\, visitors will also have free access to the courtyards of the participating buildings.

SUMMARY:Richard Phalippon - Lamps and Light Sculptures
DESCRIPTION:L’Aquila once again welcomesFrench artist Richard Phalippon\, who returns to the city with an exhibition dedicated to his lamps\, sculptures\, and light installations. The exhibition will run from April 24 to May 10\, 2026\, at the new Palazzo Benedetti venue\, which is inaugurating “Strano Mondo” for the occasion—a new exhibition space ready to host events and artistic experiments.\nFor over 15 years\, Richard Phalippon has been featured in contemporary art and design fairs in Paris and across Europe\, as well as in private art galleries\, developing a distinctive style in which craftsmanship\, design\, memory\, and experimentation coexist in a unique balance. Through a creative process that begins with objects from the past—discarded materials\, disused industrial elements\, and salvaged fragments— the artist creates luminous and functional works that evoke vintage and Art Deco atmospheres\, transforming abandoned elements into unique objects\, revitalized by meticulous craftsmanship and insights that blend sculpture and design. \nVISITING HOURS\nDaily from 5:00 PM to 8:30 PM\nSaturdays and Sundays also from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM. \nFOR MORE INFORMATION info@palazzobenedetti.it

SUMMARY:Opening of an exhibition marking the 100th anniversary of Alik Cavaliere's birth
DESCRIPTION:On the 100th anniversary of Alik Cavaliere’s birth\, L’Aquila pays tribute to one of the leading figures of 20th-century contemporary art. The exhibition celebrates the artist’s special bond with the city\, which began with his historic participation in the 1968 exhibition“Alternative attuali\,”reaffirming a cultural dialogue that spans the decades.\nAt the heart of the exhibition are significant works from the “W la Libertà” series\, one of the artist’s most profound reflections on the malaise of civilization. In his sculptures\, natural elements are enclosed within metal structures that allude to humanity’s fear of freedom and to the social conventions that seek to repress instinct. Cavaliere\, a brilliant and eccentric artist\, stages the dialectic between nature’s unstoppable vitality and the constraints imposed by society\, offering a message of surprising relevance today.\nThe project\, realized with the support of Muspac and in collaboration withthe Academy of Fine Arts\, consists of an exhibition itinerary accompanied by an inaugural conference featuring academics and experts\, and will culminate in the fall with an educational workshop dedicated to the Master. This is a valuable opportunity to rediscover the works of an artist who left his mark on the Italian and European avant-garde movements\, inviting the public to reflect on their own capacity for self-determination and escape from all constraints.

SUMMARY:Opening of the “Cultural Ecosystem” Exhibition - Opera Demopratica\, L'Aquila
DESCRIPTION:Opening of the exhibition “Cultural Ecosystem\,” the beating heart of the Opera Demopratica L’Aquila. The project\, promoted by the Pistoletto Cittadellarte Foundation in collaboration with the City of L’Aquila\, transforms the city into a laboratory for social regeneration inspired by Michelangelo Pistoletto’s principles of Demopraxia and Trinamica. \nThe exhibition is not merely a display\, but a strategic initiative that places culture at the center of development: the Maestro’s works interact with the objects and books provided by local organizations\, creating a collective narrative of L’Aquila’s identity. The “Third Paradise” installation\, composed of chairs loaned by local organizations\, becomes a visual symbol of collective intelligence and shared responsibility. \nThe Opera Demopratica redefines the role of Cultural and Creative Enterprises (CCEs) as drivers of connection between industry\, the nonprofit sector\, and citizens. Through a dynamic mapping project that pays homage to the city’s 99 founding castles\, the initiative aims to break down traditional barriers between culture\, the economy\, and social impact. “Cultural Ecosystem” is the first step in a participatory process that will accompany the city throughout the year\, culminating in the Demopratic Forum in May\, to define new forms of cultural governance and urban sustainability.

SUMMARY:Aurum Naturæ Immersive Photography Exhibition: BLACK-AND-WHITE LANDSCAPES – BLACK&WHITE LANDSCAPES (Photographs by Marco Equizi)
DESCRIPTION:“Whatungarongaro te tangata\, toitū te whenua.” “Just as man disappears from sight\, the earth remains.” (Maori proverb) \n\nIn the recent past\, central Italy has been associated almost exclusively with devastating earthquakes that have altered the landscape of many places\, leaving villages and towns still in need of reconstruction. Nature\, however\, follows a millennia-old path; over the ages\, the landscape slowly transforms\, following the continuous and unceasing course of both tectonic movements and the seasons\, offering us primordial and unspoiled vistas that seem eternal. The very same territory that has seen human settlements rise up can\, just a few hundred meters from these homes\, hide corners of extraordinary beauty—places where there is literally no trace of human activity\, or where only an imperceptible trace remains. The highlands of Abruzzo\, the forests straddling the border between Abruzzo and Lazio\, the lakes and waterways—some accessible only via often rugged trails—represent the very origins of central Italy. These are places where some may encounter the work of their God\, while others may rediscover themselves; places where the cardinal directions lose their meaning and all human logic seems to dissolve into the emotions evoked by their contemplation. What emerges strongly is humanity’s duty to oversee the care of its surroundings\, exercising preventive protection against the destructive actions of its fellow humans; otherwise\, the price the future holds in store will be the total loss of the opportunity to experience the splendid sensations bestowed upon us by nature. Depicting these landscapes in monochrome is the true challenge of this collection: the elements stand out through the gradation of tones\, without earth\, water\, and sky dominating through color\, yet creating a powerful connection among them. The format chosen by the artist—which gives the collection its title—is the golden ratio. The viewpoints presented to the observer are those of a traveler who arrives at the location and directs his gaze—naturally horizontal—toward the spectacle before him\, in a near-perfect 144:89 aspect ratio. *Aurum Naturæ* is a series created over a six-year period\, from 2014 to 2020\, and is conceptually divided into four parts: Sky\, Form\, Water\, Vegetation; the shooting locations—though recognizable in many cases—are not indicated by the artist’s express choice. All images were taken with a full-frame Canon EOS digital camera. The exhibition layout in the Winter Garden features photographs mounted on rigid panels suspended by steel cables using the existing steel structure on the hall’s ceiling. The exhibition will be viewable from the balcony.

SUMMARY:Andrea Pazienza: The Mathematics of the Sign
DESCRIPTION:Edited by Giulia Ferracci and Oscar Glioti \nStarting December 6\, 2025\, an exhibition celebrating the artist and taking us to the heart of his creative process\, revealing how his style has transformed comics into a new art form. \nOn the 70th anniversary of Andrea Pazienza’s birth (1956–1988)\, the Museum is dedicating an exhibition project to this great author\, spanning Rome and L’Aquila. The exhibition in L’Aquila traces the formative years during which Pazienza developed his own artistic language—a personal vocabulary born of continuous experimentation. At the heart of the exhibition is the line\, understood not as a simple line but as the generative core of images\, visual rhythm\, and a narrative tool. A flexible graphic grammar that the artist breaks down and reassembles\, transforming the line into a living organism capable of expressing emotions and moods. \nThe exhibition brings together over 300 works\, many of which have never been shown before: childhood drawings\, ink drawings\, watercolors\, and marker compositions. These works demonstrate his ability to blend precision and spontaneity\, control and momentum\, restraint and improvisation. It is a body of work where painting and comics coexist\, bridging tradition with the freshness of a contemporary and popular artistic language. \nOrganized into chronological and thematic sections\, the exhibition traces the key stages of the artist’s creative journey\, offering the public a glimpse not only of his innovative energy but also of his deep connection to Abruzzo\, the region where he took his first steps as an artist. A special section is dedicated to Convergenze\, the Pescara art gallery that hosted Pazienza’s first solo exhibition in 1973—a landmark for many artists of that era.
