SUMMARY:Roberto Gatto performs "Rugantino Reloaded" — 80th season of the "Bonaventura Barattelli" Aquila Concert Society
DESCRIPTION:To celebrate the conclusion of the prestigious 80th season of the “Bonaventura Barattelli” Aquila Concert Society\, renowned jazz drummer Roberto Gatto is presenting an extraordinary project. The new version of “Roberto Gatto Plays Rugantino” will be premiered—a jazz reinterpretation that\, twenty-five years later\, renews the tribute to the iconic music of Armando Trovajoli. \nThis “Reloaded” edition features brand-new arrangements and a fresh musical approach\, performed by an exceptional ensemble that brings together some of the biggest stars of Italian jazz\, including Alessandro Lanzoni\, Gabriele Mirabassi\, and Rosario Giuliani. The project transforms the famous musical comedy into a vibrant narrative\, where the story of the Trastevere tough guy is infused with rhythmic energy and sophisticated harmonies. \nThe decision to premiere this work in the city underscores Roberto Gatto ‘s deep connection to the Abruzzo capital\, strengthened by his teaching activity at the “A. Casella” Conservatory and his long-standing collaboration with Barattelli. This concert builds a bridge between the great tradition of Italian musical theater and the innovation of contemporary jazz \, offering audiences a beloved work in a completely new and engaging guise. \nFOR MORE INFORMATION\nwww.barattelli.it

SUMMARY:Open Houses - Guided Tours
DESCRIPTION:Sunday\, April 26\, marks the return of “Palazzi Aperti\,” the fourth event in a packed calendar that opens the city’s most beautiful historic residences to the public. \nThe highlight of the day is the Church of San Filippo (Via Cavour)\, which has just reopened to the public following extensive post-earthquake restoration work: Guided tours (every 30 minutes from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.) will allow visitors to once again admire one of L’Aquila’s Baroque gems\, now restored to the community. \nThis day will allow you to visit\, in a single itinerary\, the two main gems of L’Aquila’s Baroque architecture: the Church of San Filippo andthe Oratory of Sant’Antonio dei Cavalieri de Nardis (Via San Marciano). Both are linked to the figure of the Venerable Baldassarre de Nardis\, founder of the Congregation of the Oratory in L’Aquila: after his death\, the community he had established built the Church of San Filippo\, while his grandchildren\, inspired by his example\, built the Oratory of Sant’Antonio. A spiritual and artistic thread unites these two most significant Baroque buildings in the historic center. \nAlongside guided tours of Palazzo Alfieri\, Palazzo Benedetti\, and the Oratory of the Knights of Nardis\, contemporary art and photography engage in a dialogue with the city’s historic architecture: at Palazzo Ciccozzi (13 Via Indipendenza)\, Spazio Indipendenza presents *Cantiere artistico* by Generoso Spagnuolo (10 a.m.–1 p.m. and 2:30–5:30 p.m.); at Le Cancelle (Via Simeonibus)\, WelcomeAQ Gallery presents *Fotografia Oltre* by Danilo Susi (10 a.m.–1 p.m. and 3–6 p.m.). \nDAILY SCHEDULE\nGUIDED TOURS \n\nChurch of San Filippo (Via Cavour) Guided tours every 30 minutes from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. (The church has just reopened to the public following the completion of post-earthquake restoration work)\nOratory of the Knights of Nardis (Via San Marciano) 3:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m .\nPalazzo Alfieri (Via Fortebraccio\, 54) 3:00 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.\nPalazzo Benedetti (Via Sassa\, 15) 3:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.\n\nReservations required: tinyurl.com/palazziaperti \nEXHIBITIONS AND SELF-GUIDED TOURS \n\nPalazzo Ciccozzi (Via Indipendenza\, 13) From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Self-guided tour of the exhibition *Cantiere artistico* by Generoso Spagnuolo\, curated by Spazio Indipendenza\nLe Cancelle (Via Simeonibus) From 10 a.m . to 1 p.m. and from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Self-guided tour of the exhibition *Fotografia Oltre* by Danilo Susi\, curated by WelcomeAQ Gallery\n\nThroughout the day\, visitors will also have free access to the courtyards of the participating buildings.

SUMMARY:"Wild Days" by Yohan Guignard (L'Aquila Mountain Fest 2026: "A Life for the Mountains")
DESCRIPTION:Four friends and a crazy idea: to cross the Denali Range in 50 days of complete self-sufficiency. *Wild Days* is the logbook of a journey where friendship is tested by exhaustion\, silence\, and the vastness of a natural world that stretches time and makes every gesture essential. Setting out from the village of Kantishna\, the group tackles a 500-kilometer trek to the Pacific Ocean\, traveling on foot\, on skis\, and by packraft. With no marked trails or outside support\, the four pull 110-kg sleds\, relying solely on their own physical rhythm. An extreme and powerful immersion in a wild world\, where spirits seem to soar in the immensity of the mountains. \nFOR INFORMATION AND TICKETS\nhttps://www.cinemazeta.it/

SUMMARY:Richard Phalippon - Lamps and Light Sculptures
DESCRIPTION:L’Aquila once again welcomesFrench artist Richard Phalippon\, who returns to the city with an exhibition dedicated to his lamps\, sculptures\, and light installations. The exhibition will run from April 24 to May 10\, 2026\, at the new Palazzo Benedetti venue\, which is inaugurating “Strano Mondo” for the occasion—a new exhibition space ready to host events and artistic experiments.\nFor over 15 years\, Richard Phalippon has been featured in contemporary art and design fairs in Paris and across Europe\, as well as in private art galleries\, developing a distinctive style in which craftsmanship\, design\, memory\, and experimentation coexist in a unique balance. Through a creative process that begins with objects from the past—discarded materials\, disused industrial elements\, and salvaged fragments— the artist creates luminous and functional works that evoke vintage and Art Deco atmospheres\, transforming abandoned elements into unique objects\, revitalized by meticulous craftsmanship and insights that blend sculpture and design. \nVISITING HOURS\nDaily from 5:00 PM to 8:30 PM\nSaturdays and Sundays also from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM. \nFOR MORE INFORMATION info@palazzobenedetti.it

SUMMARY:Opening of an exhibition marking the 100th anniversary of Alik Cavaliere's birth
DESCRIPTION:On the 100th anniversary of Alik Cavaliere’s birth\, L’Aquila pays tribute to one of the leading figures of 20th-century contemporary art. The exhibition celebrates the artist’s special bond with the city\, which began with his historic participation in the 1968 exhibition“Alternative attuali\,”reaffirming a cultural dialogue that spans the decades.\nAt the heart of the exhibition are significant works from the “W la Libertà” series\, one of the artist’s most profound reflections on the malaise of civilization. In his sculptures\, natural elements are enclosed within metal structures that allude to humanity’s fear of freedom and to the social conventions that seek to repress instinct. Cavaliere\, a brilliant and eccentric artist\, stages the dialectic between nature’s unstoppable vitality and the constraints imposed by society\, offering a message of surprising relevance today.\nThe project\, realized with the support of Muspac and in collaboration withthe Academy of Fine Arts\, consists of an exhibition itinerary accompanied by an inaugural conference featuring academics and experts\, and will culminate in the fall with an educational workshop dedicated to the Master. This is a valuable opportunity to rediscover the works of an artist who left his mark on the Italian and European avant-garde movements\, inviting the public to reflect on their own capacity for self-determination and escape from all constraints.

SUMMARY:Pre-Texts - Artists for Matta Ets
DESCRIPTION:What happens when Harvard’s educational approach meets the art of body mapping? The result is a unique project for L’Aquila 2026\, coordinated by the BACH Center and Artisti per il Matta\, which transforms the city into an open-air stage. \nThrough Doris Sommer ’s Pre-Texts method and Alessandro Carboni’s research\, students from the “A. Bafile” High School and the Academy of Fine Arts will become true “urban explorers.” It’s not just about studying\, but also about play and action: the body becomes a compass for mapping the city’s heritage\, translating perceptions and stories into live performances. \nThe journey begins in April with teacher training\, then really takes off in the fall with creative workshops for young people. The culmination will be in December 2026:a collective installation and an urban performance will offer the community a new vision of L’Aquila\, where every citizen plays a leading role in driving change. Join us in building a city that isn’t just meant to be admired\, but one that invites people to live in it and reinvent it. \nPHASE 1 – LAUNCH AND TRAINING\n• Establishment of the scientific and artistic coordination team;\n• Launch of communications and the organizational secretariat;\n• Launch of monitoring and impact assessment;\n• Training for teachers on the Pre-Texts method;\n• Introductory site visits with the artist. \nDETAILED SCHEDULE\nApril 23—2:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.\nApril 30—2:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.\nMay 13 – 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.\nMay 20 – 2:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.\nJune 5 – 2:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

SUMMARY:Opening of the “Cultural Ecosystem” Exhibition - Opera Demopratica\, L'Aquila
DESCRIPTION:Opening of the exhibition “Cultural Ecosystem\,” the beating heart of the Opera Demopratica L’Aquila. The project\, promoted by the Pistoletto Cittadellarte Foundation in collaboration with the City of L’Aquila\, transforms the city into a laboratory for social regeneration inspired by Michelangelo Pistoletto’s principles of Demopraxia and Trinamica. \nThe exhibition is not merely a display\, but a strategic initiative that places culture at the center of development: the Maestro’s works interact with the objects and books provided by local organizations\, creating a collective narrative of L’Aquila’s identity. The “Third Paradise” installation\, composed of chairs loaned by local organizations\, becomes a visual symbol of collective intelligence and shared responsibility. \nThe Opera Demopratica redefines the role of Cultural and Creative Enterprises (CCEs) as drivers of connection between industry\, the nonprofit sector\, and citizens. Through a dynamic mapping project that pays homage to the city’s 99 founding castles\, the initiative aims to break down traditional barriers between culture\, the economy\, and social impact. “Cultural Ecosystem” is the first step in a participatory process that will accompany the city throughout the year\, culminating in the Demopratic Forum in May\, to define new forms of cultural governance and urban sustainability.

SUMMARY:Music to Shape: Dialogues Between Sounds\, Words\, and New Cultural Frontiers - Cesare Scarton: "Directing in Opera"
DESCRIPTION:As part of the “Musica Per-Formare” project organized by the “B. Barattelli” Concert Society of L’Aquila\, promoted in conjunction with L’Aquila’s designation as the 2026 Italian Capital of Culture\, a high-profile event dedicated tothe evolution of opera direction will be held. The event’s featured speaker is Cesare Scarton\, a director\, professor\, and vocal expert\, who will analyze how opera direction has evolved since the 1950s.\nThrough an analysis of various productions of Giuseppe Verdi’s *La traviata* —from the most traditional to the most experimental—Scarton will illustrate how opera serves as a mirror of society and a witness to the changes of our time.\nThe event\, in keeping with the spirit of “L’Aquila: City of the Multiverse\,” bridges the gap between theoretical reflection and new creativity: during the event\, the world premiere of “To Descent” for violin\, cello\, and piano—a new composition by the young talent Gabriele Pingue—will be performed by the METIS Trio. This moment of dialogue between established artists and the next generation reinforces L’Aquila’s role as a laboratory open to the arts. \nFREE ADMISSION\nThe event is being streamed live on the Società Aquilana dei Concerti’s Facebook page.

SUMMARY:Semi-Serious and Tragicomic Readings - CostellAzioni Project
DESCRIPTION:“Semi-Serious and Tragicomic Readings” is a reading performance—featuring musical improvisations by Jonis Bascir—that brings together notes\, ideas\, readings\, and reflections by the Roman actor and director Edoardo Leo. Twenty years of clippings\, memories\, and laughter\, transformed into an engaging show that changes in form and content each time depending on the venue and occasion. An opportunity to smile and reflect\,offering glimpses into human life by blending words and music. A reflection on comedy and poetry to show that\, after all\, they aren’t so far apart. On stage\, you’ll find not only stories and monologues by famous writers (Benni\, Calvino\, Márquez\, Eco\, Benni\, Piccolo) but also newspaper articles\, anecdotes\, and texts by young contemporary authors and Edoardo Leo himself—along with plenty of surprises. \nINFO AND RESERVATIONS:\nAdmission to all opening performances at the Teatro San Filippo Neri (April 17–19) is free. Due to the venue’s limited capacity\, registration is required and seats are available on a first-come\, first-served basis.\nRegistration links: www.costellazionilaquila.it\nContact email: ticketingcostellazioni@mosaicostudio.com

SUMMARY:Ars Trio and Ars Ludi - 80th Season of the "Bonaventura Barattelli" Aquila Concert Society
DESCRIPTION:ARS TRIO OF ROME\nLaura Pietrocini\, piano\nMarco Fiorentini\, violin\nValeriano Taddeo\, cello \nARS LUDI\n; Antonio Caggiano\, Rodolfo Rossi\, Gian Luca Ruggeri on percussion \nMusic by Ives\, Takemitsu\, and Shostakovich \nA special event marks the 80th season of the “B. Barattelli” Aquila Concert Society. The stars of the event arethe Ars Trio of Rome\, a leading force in Italian chamber music\, and the percussion ensemble Ars Ludi\, winner of the prestigious Silver Lion at the 2022 Venice Music Biennale. \nThe program explores the 20th century through the themes of “quotation” and sonic memory. The opening features the genius of Charles Ives with his Trio\, a work that blends classical and folk music in a revolutionary polyrhythmic composition. This is followed by the ethereal poetry of Tōru Takemitsu’s *Rain Tree*\, a piece for three percussionists inspired by Japanese aesthetics\, in which sound emerges from silence like raindrops. \nThe highlight of the evening is Dmitri Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 15\, presented in Viktor Derevianko’s historic chamber music arrangement for trio and percussion. An enigmatic work\, approved by the composer himself\, in which references to Rossini and Wagner become clues to an intimate and allusive spiritual testament. An unmissable musical journey that combines tradition and experimentation in the heart of L’Aquila\, the 2026 Capital of Culture. \nFOR INFORMATION AND TICKETS\nwww.barattelli.it

SUMMARY:Out Of Office - CostellAzioni Project
DESCRIPTION:In *Out Of Office*\, Giorgia Fumo takes us on a journey through the challenges and absurdities of office life\, analyzing how the world of work has radically changed over the past fifteen years. With her sharp and ironic style\, Giorgia draws on her thirteen years in the office to depict a workplace filled with PowerPoint presentations and burnout\, Excel spreadsheets and people who boast about “working with people\,” tear-jerking stories on LinkedIn\, and fights over the air conditioning. \n“Out Of Office” is more than just a comedy show: it’s a lively and authentic portrait of a microcosm where\, whether we like it or not\, we spend much of our days navigating a mix of expectations\, frustrations\, and limitations. With her sharp wit\, Giorgia reminds us that\, even between calls where we show our worst sides\, there’s always room for a laugh and a moment of reflection. \nINFO AND RESERVATIONS:\nAdmission to all opening performances at the Teatro San Filippo Neri (April 17–19) is free. SUMMARY:Theater Season in L'Aquila: No One Knows How
DESCRIPTION:Ninety years after its 1935 debut\, *Non si sa come* has been chosen by Paolo Valerio to continue an exploration of psychology and the human psyche\, a journey he began with *La coscienza di Zeno*. Drawing on the Svevean tradition of *\n*\, the director expands this exploration through Pirandello’s unsparing prose. The lead role goes to a master actor like Franco Branciaroli\, who is equally at home in the grand roles of Shakespeare and Goldoni as he is in the emotional turmoil of this fiercely contemporary play. \nby Luigi Pirandello\, directed by Paolo Valerio\, starring Franco Branciaroli\, Alessandro Albertin\, Valentina Violo\, Ester Galazzi\, Emanuele Fortunati\, and\n\, a production of Teatro Stabile del Friuli Venezia Giulia\, Teatro de gli Incamminati\, Centro Teatrale Bresciano\, and Teatro Biondo Stabile di Palermo

SUMMARY:I Am Mars\, You Are Mercury - CostellAzioni Project
DESCRIPTION:Gianluca “Scintilla” Fubelli and Federica Camba open up to the audience\, bringing their real-life relationship to the stage—a relationship built on complicity\, differences\, melodies\, and lots of laughter; she’s unpredictable\, he’s explosive; she’s deep\, he’s direct; she talks\, he listens… she talks\, he might be listening… she talks some more… he stopped listening a while ago. Between a sketch and a story\, a pinch and a caress\, they tackle the big questions of love… Who’s right? Who was wrong? Who left the toothpaste open? And above all: who said that to understand each other\, you have to be the same? Because\, in the end\, relationships are always the complete opposite of everything\, constant short circuits between distant planets: “I’m Mars\, you’re Mercury.” \nINFO AND RESERVATIONS:\nAdmission to all opening performances at the Teatro San Filippo Neri (April 17–19) is free.
