SUMMARY:Accademia Saxophone Quartet - "80th Season of the 'Bonaventura Barattelli' Aquila Concert Society"
DESCRIPTION:The “B. Barattelli” Concert Society of L’Aquila celebrates the excellence of chamber music in Abruzzo with the return of the Accademia Saxophone Quartet. On the occasion of the Barattelli’s 80th season\, the ensemble—composed of Gaetano Di Bacco\, Enzo Filippetti\, Giuseppe Berardini\, and Fabrizio Paoletti —celebrates a historic connection with the city that began right here in L’Aquila in 1984. \nThe program offers a musical journey through the versatility of the saxophone: from Singelée’s 19th-century works to the French sophistication of Françaix\, all the way to Romero’s South American rhythms. The highlight of the evening will be the world premiere of “Respiri di quiete mobile\,” a work commissioned from composer Fabio Massimo Capogrosso to mark Barattelli’s 80th anniversary. \nThe concert will conclude with the stirring “Cinemadinote” suite\, a tribute to the unforgettable soundtracks of Nino Rota and Ennio Morricone. An unmissable event that combines musicological research and cinematic inspiration in the heart of the 2026 Capital of Culture. \nFOR INFORMATION AND TICKETS:\nhttps://barattelli.it/

SUMMARY:L'Aquila Theater Season: Marcinelle\, a Story of Miners
DESCRIPTION:A new production by the Teatro Stabile d’Abruzzo in collaboration with Alt Academy Produzioni\, written and directed by Ariele Vincenti\, who will also appear on stage alongside Francesco Cassibba\, Vincenzo Tosetto\, Sarah Nicolucci\, and Giacomo Rasetti\, with music and sound design by Tiziano Gialloreto and set design by Alex Chiti. \nThe work intertwines“Grand History” with the personal stories of four miners\, meticulously reconstructing their journey from Italian train stations to Belgium\, where they faced extremely harsh living conditions in quarters converted from former concentration camps and grueling shifts a thousand meters underground. The narrative stands out for its original staging\, in which the mining environment becomes an active protagonist thanks to a complex soundscape composed of the clatter of mine cars\, dust\, and the whinnying of horses\, transforming the toil of the underground into pure theatrical poetry. Through this visual and auditory language\, the production pays tribute to the 262 victims of the fire on August 8\, 1956—136 of whom were Italian immigrants—transforming the memory of a tragic workplace accident into a collective ritual of reflection and hope for the community of L’Aquila. \nFOR INFORMATION AND TICKETS\nwww.ciaotickets.com\nTSA Box Office: 0862 410956 and 3485247096.

SUMMARY:The Casella Soloists - itARTS Festival - Back to L'Aquila: Conservatory Festival
DESCRIPTION:On April 10\, the Academic Orchestra of the “A. Casella” Conservatory will officially close the ItARTS Festival with a prestigious symphonic tribute to the 2026 Italian Capital of Culture. \nThe ItARTS project is coming to a close after a series of cultural events and international exchanges that brought the city to life between February and April. To celebrate the festival’s conclusion\, the event is scheduled for April 10 in the picturesque setting of the “Renzo Piano” Auditorium in L’Aquila. \nThe highlight of the evening will be a prestigious symphonic concert for piano and orchestra performed bythe Accademica Orchestra. The program is entirely dedicated to the works of Alfredo Casella\, a central figure in 20th-century Italian music and the inspiration behind the city’s conservatory’s identity. \nThe event not only marks the conclusion of a successful festival but also serves as a solemn tribute to L’Aquila during its year as the Italian Capital of Culture. The choice of this repertoire underscores the city’s central role in national artistic promotion\, combining the prestige of academic institutions with the cultural vision for 2026.

DESCRIPTION:The star of this first event is the Armida Quartet\, an internationally renowned ensemble composed of violinists Martin Fulda and Wojciech Koprowski\, violist Teresa Schwamm\, and cellist Peter-Philipp Staemmler. Active in Europe’s major musical centers\, the quartet is distinguished by a rigorous yet innovative approach to the repertoire.\nDeparting from the chronological order of composition\, this first concert brings together two emblematic works from Schubert’s oeuvre: the String Quartet No. 9 in G minor\, D. 173\, an early work of great freshness and verve\, and the monumental String Quartet No. 15 in G major\, Op. 161\, D. 887\, a masterpiece of his mature period\, characterized by extraordinary expressive richness and a dramatic tension of rare intensity.\nThis quartet cycle is presented not only as a tribute to one of the greatest composers—considered Beethoven’s heir—but also asa unique opportunity to experience Schubert’s captivating and passionate music. \nFOR INFORMATION AND TICKETS\nwww.barattelli.it

SUMMARY:The Carnival of the Animals
DESCRIPTION:The program opens with Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Concerto No. 10 in E-flat major for two pianos and orchestra\, K. 365\, a masterpiece of the double-piano repertoire composed in 1779. The work\, likely intended for performance by Mozart himself and his sister Nannerl\, is distinguished by the lively dialogue between the two pianos\, supported by brilliant and elegant orchestration that showcases the composer’s ability to blend expressive freshness with formal refinement\, giving rise to a musical conversation rich in ideas and contrasts. \nNext\, the highlight of the concerts: *The Carnival of the Animals*\, Camille Saint-Saëns’s famous “zoological fantasy\,” composed in 1886. Structured in 14 short scenes\, the work is an ironic and refined musical play in which the composer portrays animals and characters through timbres\, rhythms\, and musical references. From the lion’s solemn march to the clucking of the hens\, from the lightness of the aquarium to the swan’s famous elegance\, each piece is characterized by brilliant and imaginative writing\, capable of evoking evocative and at times satirical atmospheres. \nThe Main Characters \nPatricia Khachkalyan Gomes A Portuguese-Armenian oboist and conductor\, she is currently a student at the Royal College of Music in London. She has led various projects in the United Kingdom as principal conductor and artistic director and has conducted several ensembles. This season\, she continues her work as conductor and artistic director with Nova Philharmonia and assumes the same role with the Madeira Youth Sinfonia Orchestra. \nSergio Marchegiani and Marco Schiavo form a duo acclaimed by audiences and international critics alike for their highly personal style\, the natural flow of their musical expression\, the beauty of their sound\, and the intensity and overwhelming energy of their performances.
