SUMMARY:ItARTS Festival - Back to L'Aquila: "Shared\," the installation
DESCRIPTION:SHARED Physical (Installation)\, curated by the “Alfredo Casella” Conservatory of Music and Academy of Fine Arts in L’Aquila\nSHARED VR\, a virtual reality experience curated by the Polytechnic University of Turin\nShared is an interactive musical-visual work that explores the boundary between man and machine. Gestures are transformed into sound and image by Artificial Intelligence\, in an experience that combines sculpture\, music\, and virtual reality.\nThe Polytechnic University of Turin brings its technological expertise to ItARTS with Shared VR\, a virtual reality performance adaptation of Michelangelo Lupone’s Shared that invites the audience to enter a shared auditory and visual environment—one that is constantly evolving and open to participants’ contributions. Wearing a VR headset\, each participant takes on a digital avatar with which they can explore the virtual space\, select and manipulate sound forms that—translated into light trajectories—give rise to ever-changing audiovisual landscapes. In this process\, gesture and listening become tools for collective creation. The generative core at the heart of the experience collects and transforms the contributions of those present: sounds and movements are absorbed\, reworked\, and rendered as new configurations\, creating a narrative flow that belongs not to a single individual but to the temporary community that\nforms within the work’s space.\nShared VR thus brings art\, technology\, and human sensibility into dialogue\, exploring the delicate balance between the individual and the collective\, between control and surrender\, and questioning the contemporary meaning of “sharing.”\nThroughout the Festival\, from stage to stage\, the results of user testing will guide the subsequent phases of the project. The final version will be unveiled at the conclusion of the ItArts Festival\, as the outcome of a research process that intertwines artistic\, scientific\, and technological approaches.

SUMMARY:Music Per-Formare. A Conversation with Musicologist Ilaria Giani: "Conductors Without an Orchestra: Classical Music and Gender Stereotypes"
DESCRIPTION:“Musica Per-Formare – Dialogues Between Sounds\, Words\, and New Cultural Frontiers.” The second event of the Barattelli project for L’Aquila\, Italian Capital of Culture 2026\, features musicologist Ilaria Giani. \nIlaria Giani\, a native of Cremona with degrees in piano and musicology who teaches at a middle school\, sheds light on conducting by women while exploring the challenges women face in the music profession in Italy. \nIlaria Giani introduces the event as follows: “What are the gender stereotypes associated with the world of classical music? How do they affect choices regarding academic and professional paths? What symbolic barriers still hinder the full recognition of women in the role of conductors? These questions will drive a discussion supported by data and personal accounts.” \nAdmission is free. The event will be streamed live on the Società Aquilana dei Concerti Facebook page. You can participate online via the ZOOM platform by clicking on the link https://us06web.zoom.us/j/85630160172\, which will be active starting at 4:00 p.m. You may request a certificate of participation.

SUMMARY:Fantasy and Illustrated Novels Meet the Art of Cinema (La Lanterna Magica for Libriamoci)
DESCRIPTION:The DIGITALE 2.0 Project of the L’Aquila Film Institute\, carried out as part of the 2024 “National Plan for Cinema and Visual Media in Schools” promoted by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Culture.\nFrom February 16 to 21\, “La Lanterna Magica” will host\, in the classrooms participating in the DIGITALE 2.0 project\, a session as part of the national “Libriamoci” campaign\, promoted by the Ministry of Culture’s Center for Books and Reading\, which for twelve years—in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Merit—has been bringing read-aloud sessions to schools in Italy and abroad.\nThe chosen theme is “Singing of Beauty”: fantasy and illustrated novels that whisper of the wonder hidden in creation and in our hearts. They recount the magic of imaginary worlds and the secret power of the words that bring them to life. Reading thus becomes a gentle journey toward the most authentic and free part of each of us\, while cinema establishes itself as a universal language capable of uniting and moving people. \nFor Preschool and Elementary School \nHARRY POTTER AND THE PHILOSOPHER’S STONE is the first novel in the high fantasy series written by J. K. Rowling and set primarily in the fictional Wizarding World during the 1990s. Conceived in the early 1990s\, it was published in 1997. The film adaptation was directed in 2001 by Chris Columbus and written by Steve Kloves. PLOT: An orphan enrolled in a school of witchcraft and wizardry learns the truth about himself\, his family\, and the terrible evil plaguing the wizarding world. \nFor Middle School \nCORALINE is a fantasy novel for young adults written by Neil Gaiman and illustrated by Dave McKean\, published in 2002\, winner of the Hugo Award and the Nebula Award for Best Novella\, and published in Italy in 2003. In 2009\, a stereoscopic animated film based on the novel\, titled *Coraline*\, was released\, directed by Henry Selick. The stop-motion animated film was written by Neil Gaiman and illustrated by Dave McKean. The film was nominated for an Oscar in the Best Animated Feature Film category for the 2010 awards. PLOT: Coraline discovers a secret door in her house and is transported to a parallel world identical to her own… but better.

SUMMARY:Day of Remembrance
DESCRIPTION:For Remembrance Day\, we are organizing a film screening to raise awareness of these tragic events among students at all levels of education\, with the aim of preserving and renewing the memory of the tragedy suffered by Italians and all the victims of the foibe\, the exodus of Istrians\, the people of Fiume and Dalmatia following World War II\, and the more complex events surrounding the eastern border. Schools are participating through the Provincial Education Office of Abruzzo. The film program is curated by Martina Orlando\, a film professor and restorer. \nfilm festival and will be available via STREAMING on our YouTube channel. Here are the featured films: \n\nElementary Schools: THE SOLDIERS OF FANTABOSCO\nThe Melevisione episode “The Soldiers of Fantabosco” (Season 3\, aired in 2000) is a valuable and sensitive example of how to explain war to children\, using the language of fairy tales to address a complex and painful topic\n\nMiddle Schools *The Girl with the Suitcase* by Gianluca Mazzella (Italy\, 2024)\nSpring 1945. A night of celebration marking the end of the war turns into the beginning of a tragedy for little Egea Haffner: men in uniform take her father away and throw him into a foiba. This is only the beginning: shortly afterward\, Egea will be forced to leave her homeland with just a suitcase and face an uncertain future. \n\nHigh Schools *IL CUORE NEL POZZO* (Italy\, 2005)\nIstria\, 1943. Tito’s partisans are marching toward Trieste to seize Venezia Giulia\, Dalmatia\, and Istria. Novak\, one of the partisans\, is searching for his son Carlo\, the result of an assault on Giulia\, an Italian girl. Giulia has hidden Carlo in Don Bruno’s orphanage.

SUMMARY:Free Flight: A Thousand Blue Bubbles
DESCRIPTION:A clandestine same-sex love story that began in Palermo in the 1960s and continues—running parallel to a so-called “normal” life—for thirty years: this is the theme of “Le mille bolle blu\,” a monologue written by journalist Salvatore Rizzo\, performed and directed by Filippo Luna. “Le mille bolle blu” debuted at the Nuovo Montevergini theater in the Sicilian capital and\, after a series of successful performances\, was staged at various public and private theaters across several Italian regions (from Lombardy to Veneto to Umbria) and at various festivals (from the Orestiadi in Gibellina to Taormina Arte). For his performance in this monologue\, the lead actor\, Filippo Luna\, received the 2010 National Association of Theater Critics Award for achieving “a perfect blend of stage presence and acting that captures both emotion and disillusionment.” “Le mille bolle blu” tells the story of Nardino and Manuele—the former a barber in the suburbs\, the latter a lawyer: they meet as very young men in the barbershop where Nardino works as an apprentice under his father’s watchful eye and Manuele is the son of a wealthy client. It is the early 1960s—precisely the period when Mina’s hit “Le mille bolle blu” was all the rage. Destined for predetermined social and family roles (those of irreproachable husbands and caring fathers)\, the two carry on a thirty-year relationship of love and passion that is fueled in part by the secrecy in which it is lived—a secrecy that is both its lifeblood and its torment. Manuele’s death from illness becomes the pretext for Nardino—unable to openly mourn the man he loved or to cry out his grief to the world—to retrace certain moments from those thirty years\, amid nostalgia and bitterness\, anger and tenderness. An altar of memories that affirms the universality of that feeling beyond all barriers and preconceptions. “Le mille bolle blu” is adapted from the short story of the same name by Salvatore Rizzo himself\, originally published in the volume “Muore lentamente chi evita una passione – Diverse storie diverse” (Pietro Vittorietti Editore)\, which collects ten stories of male homosexuality\, all drawn from real life and set in Sicily from the 1920s to the present day. \nNutrimenti Terrestri Messina\nDirected by Maurizio Puglisi\nArtistic Director: Manuele Morgese

SUMMARY:Growing Up in the Theater: The Moral of the Story!
DESCRIPTION:Fairy tales are the best way to depict oppression. The wolf is the quintessential villain—an archetype of evil—and in the original fairy tales\, he wins and devours the poor\, innocent victim\, who is sometimes a little lamb\, sometimes a little piglet\, and sometimes a little girl who has lost her way. Poor Little Red Riding Hood\, in fact\, did not originally escape the wolf’s belly. In short\, it’s not true that villains always lose—unfortunately\, we see this every day—and only a cultural shift can help us change course. \n\nBrucaliffo Production\nDirected by Antonello Santarelli
