SUMMARY:Free Flight: Boxeur
DESCRIPTION:*Boxeur* is a play about a boxing match—the most important and highly anticipated boxing match of the postwar era. The year is 1946. Paris. The crowd gathers curiously around the ring\, everyone waiting for the two challengers to enter: Eugenio Smit Lorenzoni and Victor Young Perez. Eugenio Lorenzoni is a young man from Trentino—from Cles—who emigrated to France to escape hunger and the advance of the fascist regime. In Paris\, he works in a factory and takes up boxing\, eventually competing for the French title. Victor Young Perez is Tunisian and becomes the world flyweight champion at just 20 years old. But the careers of these two young athletes were cut short by the outbreak of the war and the Nazi regime. *Boxeur* is a show about boxing\, courage\, and resistance to fascism and Nazism. But above all\, *Boxeur* is a show about never giving up\, because the impossible isn’t forever. *Boxeur* is a story of victory and courage—an ironic and poetic show\, as light and profound as life itself: never entirely the same\, never entirely one color. \n\nTeatroE in Vallizzano\nDirected by Maura Pettorruso\nArtistic Director: Manuele Morgese

SUMMARY:Cultural Sites: Open Palaces - Palazzo Benedetti
DESCRIPTION:The building originated from the merger and transformation of the Gaglioffi family’s medieval houses\, which were later renovated into a magnificent architectural complex by the Benedetti family; even today\, one can see the coexistence of the ancient medieval structures and the numerous\, splendid reception rooms. The history of L’Aquila between the 19th and 20th centuries saw the palace as one of its driving forces\, thanks in part to the Masonic temple that was long housed in its extraordinary frescoed hall.

SUMMARY:Cultural Landmarks: Open Palaces - Palazzo Cipolloni-Cannella and the Gliubich Auction House
DESCRIPTION:Palazzo Cipolloni-Cannella is one of the city’s largest noble palaces. Over the centuries\, it has changed owners and functions\, bearing witness—through the harmonious interplay of its various architectural styles—to the history and transformations of L’Aquila through earthquakes and restorations. Today\, among its various uses\, the second noble floor houses the Gliubich Auction House in its frescoed halls\, a prominent institution in L’Aquila’s cultural sector: The tour will be led by Gianluca Gliubich himself\, who will discuss the works of art on display and the workings of an auction house.

SUMMARY:Cultural Sites: Open Palaces - Baiocco Hall
DESCRIPTION:Thanks to a collaboration with the L’Aquila Young Association\, one of L’Aquila’s iconic venues from the Belle Époque is reopening for a preview. Beneath the vaults frescoed by Patini and his students\, the social elite of early 20th-century Abruzzo would gather: nobles\, artists\, the bourgeoisie\, and intellectuals—and among them\, one might even have encountered the poet Gabriele D’Annunzio. The venue is reopening to the public to mark L’Aquila’s designation as the Italian Capital of Culture.

SUMMARY:Cultural Sites: Open Palaces - Palazzo Alfieri
DESCRIPTION:The palace was the first true palace in L’Aquila\, marking the transition from medieval houses to Renaissance palaces\, and is one of the symbols of 15th-century L’Aquila. It features splendid courtyards\, colonnaded halls with wooden ceilings\, and the small church of Santa Maria degli Angeli. For a century and a half\, it has been the headquarters of the religious institute founded by the L’Aquila-born saint Barbara Micarelli. It is open to visitors\, thanks to the generous hospitality of the Franciscan nuns who care for it and bring it to life through their religious and educational activities.

SUMMARY:Architectures for entertainment and performance yesterday and today
DESCRIPTION:The project intends to focus attention on particular categories of buildings that characterize the cities of Abruzzo and Lazio: entertainment buildings. This particular category of buildings\, since ancient times\, seems to have had a special role in society\, manifesting a particular relationship between the population and central and local power. The project includes in-depth and performative activities in ancient and modern entertainment buildings scattered between the provinces of L’Aquila and Rieti (amphitheater of Amiternum\, amphitheater of Trebula Mutuesca\, Flavio Vespasiano theater in Rieti) with particular interest in ancient female cults attested mainly in Luco dei Marsi\, S. Anatolia di Borgorose\, S. Angelo di Civitella di Pescorocchiano\, S. Vittoria di Carsoli\, the so-called Baths of Cotilia in Cittaducale\, S. Vittoria in Monteleone Sabino\, Lucus Feroniae in Capena.

SUMMARY:Andrea Pazienza: The Mathematics of the Sign
DESCRIPTION:Edited by Giulia Ferracci and Oscar Glioti \nStarting December 6\, 2025\, an exhibition celebrating the artist and taking us to the heart of his creative process\, revealing how his style has transformed comics into a new art form. \nOn the 70th anniversary of Andrea Pazienza’s birth (1956–1988)\, the Museum is dedicating an exhibition project to this great author\, spanning Rome and L’Aquila. The exhibition in L’Aquila traces the formative years during which Pazienza developed his own artistic language—a personal vocabulary born of continuous experimentation. At the heart of the exhibition is the line\, understood not as a simple line but as the generative core of images\, visual rhythm\, and a narrative tool. A flexible graphic grammar that the artist breaks down and reassembles\, transforming the line into a living organism capable of expressing emotions and moods. \nThe exhibition brings together over 300 works\, many of which have never been shown before: childhood drawings\, ink drawings\, watercolors\, and marker compositions. These works demonstrate his ability to blend precision and spontaneity\, control and momentum\, restraint and improvisation. It is a body of work where painting and comics coexist\, bridging tradition with the freshness of a contemporary and popular artistic language. \nOrganized into chronological and thematic sections\, the exhibition traces the key stages of the artist’s creative journey\, offering the public a glimpse not only of his innovative energy but also of his deep connection to Abruzzo\, the region where he took his first steps as an artist. A special section is dedicated to Convergenze\, the Pescara art gallery that hosted Pazienza’s first solo exhibition in 1973—a landmark for many artists of that era.
