SUMMARY:Mil flores amarillas | The Bowline for the 30th Organ and Early Music Festival
DESCRIPTION:As part of the program for L’Aquila 2026\, Italian Capital of Culture\, the “B. Barattelli” Concert Society of L’Aquila presents the third event of the 30th edition of the Organ and Early Music Festival “Music and Architecture – Places of Time and Music\,” featuring the ensemble The Bowline\, founded in 2025 by Teodoro Baù —one of Italy’s leading experts on the viola da gamba—with Margherita Burattini on the harp\, Giulio Petrella on the viella\, and Paolo Del Toro on the harpsichord. \nThe program “Mil flores amarillas” (A Thousand Yellow Flowers) explores the art of diminution—that is\, the melodic embellishment typical of early performance practice: a living tradition that breaks down the fourth wall between past and present\, free-spirited and surprisingly relevant today. A central figure in the repertoire is Diego Ortiz da Toledo (1510–1570)\, author of the famous *Tratado de Glosas* (Rome\, 1553)\, whose *Recercados* are performed alongside instrumental reductions of vocal works such asthe six-voice*Alma Redemptoris Mater *. Rounding out the program are works by Antonio de Cabezón\, Diego Pisador\, and Juan Bautista Cabanilles\, all exponents of the Spanish Renaissance and contemporaries of Raffaello Sanzio—whose painting *The Visitation*\, commissioned by the Branconio family for the Church of San Silvestro in L’Aquila\, is arriving in L’Aquila these days after centuries. \nFREE ADMISSION WHILE SEATS LAST.

SUMMARY:Medieval Cities Festival – 4th Edition | Peace and War: Walls and Bridges
DESCRIPTION:As part of the program for L’Aquila 2026\, Italian Capital of Culture\, the Festival of Medieval Cities returns to L’Aquila for its fourth edition\, sponsoredby the University of L’Aquila and the City of L’Aquila\, and curated by Amedeo Feniello and Alfonso Forgione of the University’s Department of Human Sciences. \nThe theme “Peace and War: Walls and Bridges” invites us to reflect on one of the most profound tensions of the Middle Ages and the contemporary world: peace and war not as exceptional conditions\, but as structural dimensions of political\, social\, and cultural life. In this context\, walls and bridges emerge as powerful civic metaphors—defense and boundaries on the one hand\, and passage\, exchange\, and connection on the other. \nHistorians\, archaeologists\, art historians\, and economic historians engage in dialogue with journalists\, political scientists\, and artists in a program featuring thematic lectures\, “Dialogues” curated by Giovanni Carletti\, special lectures\, and ” Beyond the Middle Ages ” evenings featuring guests such as Lella Costa\, Dario Fabbri\, Franco Cardini\, and Anna Foa. The festival concludes with a special focus on the Fortifications of Abruzzo and the Walls of L’Aquila\, grounding the theme in the history and identity of the region. \nFOR MORE DETAILS\, DOWNLOAD THE OFFICIAL PROGRAM

SUMMARY:Dream / Sleep — Malibu Double Concert
DESCRIPTION:As part of the program for L’Aquila 2026\, Italian Capital of Culture\, *Sogno / Sonno* is a project conceived by the cultural and social promotion association Xplosiva\, which explores the reappropriation and reinterpretation of urban spaces through special formats and innovative ways of experiencing them.\nAt the heart of the project is adouble concert by French composer Malibu at Palazzo Spaventa on Friday\, June 19\, at 10:30 p.m. and midnight\, transforming a landmark of L’Aquila into a space for deep listening and collective imagination. The audience is guided through an immersive sound experience designed to inhabit the space in a new way\, suspended between wakefulness and dreams\, between the individual dimension of listening and the shared dimension of the community. It is an invitation to let the music wash over you and to rediscover the city as a living place of transformation and shared vision. \nMalibu (the stage name of Barbara Braccini\, born in 1995)\, a French musician and composer whose work spans ambient music and ethereal soundscapes\, weaving together harmonies of soft\, reverberating voices and melodic chord progressions. Born and raised in Pau\, France\, Malibu spent her formative years studying music theory and piano at the conservatory\, partly following in the footsteps of her father\, a jazz pianist and oceanographer. Her *Palaces of Pity* (2022) and debut album *Vanities* (2025)\, reveal the magnificent depth at the heart of Malibu’s work\, which blends the best aspects of trance\, new age\, and ambient into an intimate expression woven with strings\, samples\, and her own voice. Malibu’s resume boasts cross-genre collaborations\, ranging from the most classical to the pop music scene. The cinematic qualities of her work are also expressed in her career as a film score composer. Similarly\, they are revealed in a performance with a powerful emotional impact\, amplified by meticulous lighting design. The show has been presented at major festivals and cultural institutions\, including the Southbank Centre and the Roundhouse in London\, La Gaîté Lyrique in Paris\, Primavera Sound in Barcelona\, as well as the most recent editions of the C2C Festival in Turin and New York.

SUMMARY:OVNI Baroque | Emmanuelle Dauvin for the 30th edition of the Organ and Early Music Festival
DESCRIPTION:As part of the program for L’Aquila 2026\, Italian Capital of Culture\, the “B. Barattelli” L’Aquila Concert Society presents an event of extraordinary charm and originality for the 30th edition of the Organ and Early Music Festival “Music and Architecture – Places of Time and Music.” \nThe featured artist is French violinist Emmanuelle Dauvin\, who performs a solo repertoire of the highest caliber\, including works by Johann Sebastian Bach\, Heinrich Ignaz Franz von Biber\, Johann Georg Pisendel\, and Nicola Matteis. The truly distinctive feature of her performance lies in the unique technique that has redefined Dauvin’s solo career since 2017: playing the violin while simultaneously accompanying herself on the organ pedals—a spectacular historical practice she herself has dubbed “OVNI Baroque” (Organ-Violin New Interpretation)\, which has been acclaimed at major European festivals. \nTrained at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels\, the Schola Cantorum in Basel\, and the School of Arts in Ghent\, Emmanuelle Dauvin has collaborated with world-renowned ensembles and recently achieved success at the prestigious H.I.F. Biber Competition in Austria. She performs on a violin attributed to Antonio Mariani from 1663\, accompanying herself with a Hauptwerk sound bank pedalboard\, custom-built in 2023 by Manufaktur Blumenroeder using recordings of historic organs. \nFREE ADMISSION WHILE SEATS LAST.

SUMMARY:Music Per-Formare: Dialogues Between Sounds\, Words\, and New Cultural Frontiers - Massimo Gallucci in *Direction as the Resurrection of Bodies: Orpheus*
DESCRIPTION:As part of the program for L’Aquila 2026\, Italian Capital of Culture\, the “B. Barattelli” Concert Society of L’Aquila presents a new event in the series Musica Per-Formare: Dialogues Between Sounds\, Words\, and New Cultural Frontiers\, in collaboration with the “A. Casella” Conservatory of Music in L’Aquila. \nThe featured speaker at the event is Prof. Marcello Gallucci\, a scholar\, professor\, and essayist from L’Aquila\, who teaches History of the Performing Arts and Literature and Philosophy of Theater at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome. The conversation will focus on the theme “Directing as the Resurrection of Bodies: Orpheus”: an intellectual journey that traces the roots of modern directing—from dramatic theater to opera—through the intersections between Körperkultur and eurythmy\, and the author’s long collaboration with Maestro Yuri P. Lyubimov. A reflection on theater as a formative\, civic\, and collective experience\, far removed from the logic of pure entertainment. \nThe concert opens with a musical introduction by a trio from the “A. Casella” Conservatory — Raffaele Apolloni (clarinet)\, Tommaso Lungheu (violin)\, and Valentina Martino (cello) — performing “Followers” by composer Gianmarco Tuzi\, a three-part piece built around the interplay of the instruments’ timbres and dynamics. \nFREE ADMISSION. The event will be streamed live on Barattelli’s social media platforms and broadcast live on Zoom.

SUMMARY:Music and Architecture – Places of Time and Music | 30th Organ and Early Music Festival
DESCRIPTION:As part of the program for L’Aquila 2026\, Italian Capital of Culture\, the “B. Barattelli” Concert Society of L’Aquila kicks off the 30th edition of the Organ and Early Music Festival with a concert dedicated to sonatas\, toccatas\, and cantatas from the Italian and European Baroque periods. \nThe star of the evening is soprano Lucia Casagrande Raffi\, one of Italy’s most active performers of opera and chamber music repertoire\, accompanied by three musicians from L’Aquila: violinist Federico Cardilli\, cellist Giulio Ferretti\, and organist Ettore Maria Del Romano. The program ranges from the instrumental sonatas and toccatas of Corelli\, Vivaldi\, and Mascitti to the cantatas of Bach\, Giordani\, and Handel. \nThe concert will take place atthe Oratory of Sant’Antonio dei Cavalieri de Nardis\, a masterpiece of Baroque architecture in L’Aquila\, which houses one of Italy’s most precious original and fully functional instruments:the organ built by Luca Neri in 1650. The venue is not merely a backdrop for the event\, but an integral part of the musical experience\, embodying that dialogue between sound\, history\, and architecture that is the very soul of the entire festival. \nAdmission is free while seats are available.
