SUMMARY:LEA CONTESTABILE | With my hands covered in dirt\, I kissed you
DESCRIPTION:As part of the program for L’Aquila 2026\, Italian Capital of Culture\, the MuBAq – L’Aquila Children’s Museum presents *With Hands Stained with Earth\, I Kissed You*\, the first section of the Lea Contestabile Retrospective Exhibition\, curated by Mariano Cipollini and supported and promoted by the City of L’Aquila. \n“L’Antologica” is a widespread exhibition project spanning the entire year of 2026 across various institutional venues in L’Aquila and its province\, each dedicated to a specific aspect of the artist’s work: approximately 50 works\, mirroring the fifty years of artistic activity by Lea Contestabile (Ortucchio\, 1949)\, a painter\, printmaker\, weaver\, and founder of MuBAq\, who ranks among the most significant figures in contemporary Abruzzo art both nationally and internationally. The works are selected not in chronological order but according to a dialogic approach\, to highlight the forms\, themes\, and variety of material solutions that characterize her body of work. \nOn Friday\, July 17\, 2026\, at 6:00 p.m.\, the first section of this exhibition will open. Hosted in the ten rooms of Palazzo Benedetti —reopened to the public for L’Aquila 2026—the exhibition is conceived as a journey through a lifetime: through tapestries\, rugs\, terracotta works\, and sculptures\, the artist weaves stories of memory\, belonging\, and place\, in which earth and flesh\, suffering\, and the dignity of being become a visceral and inseparable bond. \nFREE ADMISSION – JULY HOURS:\nJuly 24–25: 5:00 PM – 7:30 PM\nJuly 26: 10:00 AM – 12:30 PM / 5:00 PM – 7:30 PM\nJuly 29–30: 10:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.\nJuly 31: 5:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.

SUMMARY:Sensitive Forms – A Narrative of a Landscape
DESCRIPTION:“Sensitive Forms” \nadaptive and interactive sculptural-musical work\, \nby Licia Galizia and Michelangelo Lupone\nwith the contribution of\nGSSI Gran Sasso Science Institute\nin collaboration with\nGSSI Computer Science Area\, led by Prof. Patrizio Pelliccione\nCRM Music Research Center – ETS\nPAC Contemporary Art Project\nThe Gran Sasso Science Institute Visitor Center is hosting “Forme Sensibili – Narrazione di un paesaggio”\, a sculptural-musical work created by artists Licia Galizia and Michelangelo Lupone in collaboration with the GSSI’s Computer Science department\, the CRM – ETS Center for Musical Research\, and PAC – Contemporary Art Project\, supported and promoted by the City of L’Aquila. \nThe installation takes the form of an abstract landscape in constant transformation: every gesture\, every touch\, and every visitor’s presence influences the work’s sound component\, giving rise to ever-changing and unique sound and visual configurations. The work also engages in a dialogue with the cosmos: a muon detector —which detects high-energy particles constantly traversing space—translates their passage in real time into light and sound pulses that become part of the composition. An experience in which art\, science\, and human presence merge into a single sensory narrative in perpetual flux. Visiting hours: Monday–Friday 3:00 PM–7:00 PM (closed August 13–19). \nFREE ADMISSION.

SUMMARY:Sprouted Seeds - A Tribute to Joseph Beuys | Let's Sow Art\, 6th Edition
DESCRIPTION:As part of the program for L’Aquila 2026\, Italian Capital of Culture\, the MuBAq – L’Aquila Children’s Museum presents *Germogliati semi*. A tribute to Joseph Beuys (1921–1986) on the 40th anniversary of his passing\, this is the fourth event in the sixth edition of “Seminiamo Arte\,” curated by Antonio Gasbarrini and Mariano Cipollini\, and supported and promoted by the City of L’Aquila. The opening is scheduled for July 30 at 6:00 p.m.; the exhibition is open Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Additional special opening hours in August will be announced as they become available. \nMore than thirty Italian and international artists have been invited to participate with works and performances that are in perfect harmony with the revolutionary philosophy of Beuys’s “Social Sculpture\, ” each interpreting in their own way the guiding principle that runs through Joseph Beuys’s entire body of work: DEFENSE OF NATURE. Sculptures\, installations\, and performances unfold within the natural setting ofthe medieval Celestine Botanical Garden\, adjacent to the Basilica of Santa Maria di Collemaggio\, transforming the green space into a place for intimate engagement with Beuys’s thought and work and into an invitation for the public to actively participate—as co-protagonists\, according to Beuys’s famous vision\, in a “peaceful and pacifying” plastic mass in the making. \nTo round out the event\, in early September 2026\, an interdisciplinary seminar on Beuysian research and the state of the Botanical Garden\, as well as a photographic exhibition of portraits of Beuys taken by Stefano Fontebasso De Martino at the Palazzetto dei Nobili in L’Aquila.

SUMMARY:THE MEMORY OF STONES - Stories to Help Us Start Over
DESCRIPTION:“Stories for a New Beginning” is a site-specific\, community-based theater project that transforms the landscape into a stage and the time of sunset into a shared moment of listening. Conceived and produced by Vesuvioteatro\, with artistic direction by Claudio Di Palma and artistic consultation by Giulio Baffi\, this eco-sustainable theater festival unfolds through traveling performances designed to engage intimately with sites of historical\, architectural\, and scenic value\, without resorting to invasive set designs\, electrical equipment\, or artificial amplification. Natural light and ambient sound become an integral part of the dramaturgy\, restoring to theater an essential\, poetic\, and deeply contemporary dimension. \nTHE MEMORY OF STONES\ninspired by the writings of Giustino Parisse\nby and starring Claudio Di Palma\nwith musical accompaniment by Massimiliano Sacchi (clarinet) and Riccardo Marconi (guitar)\nProduced by Ente Teatro Cronaca \nThere are places where stones are more than just matter. They are traces\, a voice\, memory. The memory of stones emerges as a poetic exploration of the relationship between humans and stone: the stone that forms the foundation of homes\, marks the boundaries of paths\, preserves time\, and withstands the wind and the seasons. But also the stone that holds within it absences\, transformations\, wounds\, and the possibility of\nA New Beginning. Inspired by the writings of Giustino Parisse and the impressions gathered throughout the Abruzzo region\, the performance unfolds in a suspended\, dreamlike dimension\, where stories\, images\, and fragments of memory intertwine with live music\, vocals\, and the harp\, giving life to an intimate and visionary soundscape. In the small square of Nuova Onna\, among stones steeped in history and silence\, the audience is invited to sharea delicate and profound listening experience\, in which the very fabric of the landscape seems to become a story. \n\nFREE ADMISSION ( In case of rain\, performances may be postponed) \nFOR MORE INFORMATION\nYou can message us on WhatsApp: 3335691511\nYou can send an email to: info@vesuvioteatro.org

SUMMARY:99 Songs Event | ACCULAE – Il Rito delle Fonti (The Rite of Springs)
DESCRIPTION:As part of the program for L’Aquila 2026\, Italian Capital of Culture\, the event “99 Songs” —organizedby the Euterpe Music Association —presents ACCULAE – Il Rito delle Fonti\, a performance by the artistic collective The 10th Sense in one of L’Aquila’s most iconic and defining locations. \n*The Master of Water* emerges from the fusion of the ephemeral artist’s narrative and the city’s deepest soul: the ninety-nine stone masks\, silent witnesses to the ninety-nine founding castles of L’Aquila\, become the focal point of a reflection on time and collective memory. Water is not merely a scenic element\, but a comprehensive map and a negation of the past: it flows\, is consumed\, regenerates\, and refuses to be confined. A sensory and ritual experience that transforms the monument into a living theater\, where the city itself becomes the story. \nFree admission while seats last.

SUMMARY:99 Songs Event | Boleros
DESCRIPTION:As part of the program for L’Aquila 2026\, Italian Capital of Culture\, the event “99 Songs” —organizedby the Euterpe Music Association —closes out its summer lineup with “Boleros”: a musical journey into the heart of Latin American song\, where passion\, poetry\, and refined interpretation come together in a timeless repertoire. \nRosa Dominguez’s voice\, Marcelo Nisinman’s bandoneon\, Maurizio Grandinetti’s guitar\, and Roberto Koch ’s double bass come together to create a concert that spans the great bolero classics and lesser-known pieces from the Hispanic-American tradition. SUMMARY:Little Garden of the Muses | Let's Sow Art\, 6th Edition
DESCRIPTION:As part of the program for L’Aquila 2026\, Italian Capital of Culture\, the MuBAq – L’Aquila Children’s Museum presents *The Little Garden of the Muses – Mosaic Art for Shared Regeneration*\, an exhibition of mosaic works by artists from the Ravenna area\, curated by art critic Antonio Gasbarrini. \nThe project began as an *opus musivum* —a work of the Muses—with the aim of fostering the civic regeneration of an urban green space through the beauty of mosaic art. The mosaic works—a millennia-old art form rooted in the great Italian decorative tradition—interact with the surrounding natural environment\, transforming an urban green space into a place for contemplation and shared cultural engagement. The exhibition is part of the “L’Aquila 2026” vision\, which places the regeneration of public spaces and community participation at the heart of its cultural program\, restoring vibrant and beautiful places to the city. The opening will take place on August 10 at 6:00 p.m.; the exhibition will be open to the public through September 5.

SUMMARY:Dream / Sleep | Artist-in-Residence Program with the "Alfredo Casella" Conservatory
DESCRIPTION:As part of the program for L’Aquila 2026\, Italian Capital of Culture\, the project Sogno / Sonno by the Xplosiva association is hosting an artist residency in collaboration with the “Alfredo Casella” State Conservatory of Music in L’Aquila\, where contemporary musical languages\, sound experimentation\, and performance practices intertwine in a collective process of research and shared creation. \nLeading the project is Francesco Fantini\, a musician and sound designer with an international background—including the “G. Verdi” Conservatory in Turin\, the “G.F. Ghedini” in Cuneo\, and MIAM in Istanbul—known for his versatility across pop production\, collaborations with artists such as Annalisa\, and film scores\, including the soundtrack for Yuri Ancarani’s *The Challenge*\, which was presented at the Locarno Film Festival. Joining him are two internationally renowned artists: Tomat\, a musician from the spime.im collective\, who has performed at the Barbican in London and at the MUTEK and Ars Electronica festivals\, and whose soundtrack for *Mondocane* was featured at the Venice Film Festival; and Canva6\, whose work spans electronic music and the performing arts\, having performed at MACRO in Rome and the Triennale in Milan\, and who composed the soundtrack for *Eat the Night* at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival’s Quinzaine des Cinéastes. \nThe residency culminates in a public presentation open to the city\, serving as the concluding moment to share the creative process developed during the week-long residency.

SUMMARY:Dream / Sleep | Concert
DESCRIPTION:As part of the program for L’Aquila 2026\, Italian Capital of Culture\, the project *Sogno / Sonno by the Xplosiva association reaches its conclusion with a public presentation of the composition and performance resulting from the artist-in-residence program conducted in collaboration with the “Alfredo Casella” State Conservatory of Music in L’Aquila. \nOn stage: Francesco Fantini\, Tomat\, and Canva6 —three of the most original voices on the Italian and international experimental and contemporary music scene—present to the audience in L’Aquila the result of a week of collective creation: a sound performance that explores the threshold between wakefulness and dreams\, between silence and sound\, and between the individual dimension and shared space. A unique and once-in-a-lifetime event\, in which the artistic process opens up to the city and the audience becomes both a witness to and a part of a profound and transformative listening experience. The evening is part of the vision of Sogno / Sonno\, a project that\, since its inception\, has explored the reappropriation of urban spaces through special formats and innovative ways of experiencing them.
