{"id":5816,"date":"2026-02-03T15:43:04","date_gmt":"2026-02-03T14:43:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/laquila2026.it\/senza-categoria\/project-for-the-academy-of-fine-arts-campus-in-laquila-unveiled\/"},"modified":"2026-07-30T20:00:10","modified_gmt":"2026-07-30T18:00:10","slug":"project-for-the-academy-of-fine-arts-campus-in-laquila-unveiled","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/laquila2026.it\/en\/laquila-2026\/project-for-the-academy-of-fine-arts-campus-in-laquila-unveiled\/","title":{"rendered":"Project for the Academy of Fine Arts Campus in L&#8217;Aquila Unveiled"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wpb-content-wrapper\">[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221;]\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>L&#8217;<\/em> <em>Aquila, February 2026 &#8211;<\/em> The project for the construction of a <strong>campus for the<\/strong> <strong>expansion and redevelopment of the headquarters of the<\/strong> <strong>Academy of Fine Arts of L&#8217;<\/strong> <strong>Aquila<\/strong> was presented today at Palazzo Margherita, the seat of the Municipality of L&#8217;Aquila.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This project involves <u>approximately <strong>9.5 million euros (9,472,597.78 euros) allocated <\/strong><\/u>by the Ministry of Universities and Research in 2024. The project aims to: <strong>enhance<\/strong><strong>the educational offerings, improve<\/strong><strong>energy efficiency, and enhance the outdoor areas<\/strong><strong>of the L\u2019Aquila-based institute of higher education in the arts.<\/strong> <\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The total project area\u2014including both built-up space and outdoor green spaces or areas adapted to the needs of the student body\u2014covers <strong>22,880 square meters<\/strong>, to be developed between the historic campus designed by star architect Paolo Portoghesi and the more modern wing, as well as at the very entrance to the current building.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">There are three main measures:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li><strong>construction of a solar farm<\/strong> on the area currently used as a parking lot, with steel canopies covering approximately 76 parking spaces, as well as spaces for bicycles, scooters, and kick scooters. The goal is to help make the building energy self-sufficient; <\/li>\n<li><strong>Construction of an<\/strong><strong>outdoor<\/strong> <strong>amphitheater<\/strong> designed as a gathering space and outdoor theater to address the current difference in elevation between the parking lot and the Academy\u2019s facilities<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Expansion of educational spaces<\/strong> through the construction of new wings with a total floor area of 1,200 square meters, to be used for classrooms, laboratories, exhibition spaces, and common areas.<span class=\"wpex-text-3xl wpex-text-md wpex-text-7xl\" style=\"font-size: 18px;\">The new project, designed by <strong>Studio Paoloni &#8211; Scoccia &#8211; Laurini<\/strong> of L\u2019Aquila, will be carried out in accordance with criteria of flexibility, safety, energy efficiency, and architectural integration with the existing complex, while the outdoor spaces will also be available for local cultural activities. The project, which has been reviewed and approved by the Academy of Fine Arts, will have the Province of L\u2019Aquila as the sole contracting authority.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Present at this morning\u2019s presentation were the Mayor of L\u2019Aquila, <strong>Pierluigi Biondi; <\/strong>ABAQ <strong>President <\/strong> <strong>Rinaldo Tordera and <\/strong>Director <strong>Marco Brandizzi; Project Manager <\/strong> <strong>Massimo Di Battista; and <\/strong>designers <strong>Eleonora Laurini and Diego Scoccia.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>\u201cThis is<\/em> <em>a major leap in quality<\/em> <em>for our academy<\/em> ,\u201d explained ABAQ Director Brandizzi, \u201c <em>because<\/em> <em>ours will be<\/em> <em>the<\/em> <em>only one to have a space that integrates energy infrastructure, architecture, and teaching spaces, as well as places for human relationships. This will be achieved through the creation of an innovative yet replicable model for the redevelopment of higher education schools like ours, especially in areas with high<\/em> <em>seismic vulnerability and complex urban contexts. This project will<\/em> <em>also significantly improve the quality<\/em> <em>of our teaching, but also the working lives of both students and the teaching and administrative staff in general<\/em> <em>.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>\u201cI am very proud of this milestone achieved by our Academy, which was made possible by everyone\u2019s hard work and efforts ,\u201d added <\/em>President Tordera. <em>\u201cFor this reason, I want to thank everyone at our institution who contributed to this result, but first and foremost, I would like to thank the Ministry of Education, Universities, and Research (MUR), represented by Minister Anna Maria Bernini, who immediately recognized the value of this initiative and provided the necessary funding. Thanks also go to Mayor Biondi for<\/em><em>the support and collaboration that<\/em><em>the administration provides for our initiatives. Today we presented the project, which <\/em><em>has been approved<\/em><em>by the Academy and<\/em><em>will<\/em><em>now<\/em><em>undergo review and validation by the relevant authorities,<\/em><em>thereby launching the<\/em><em>bidding<\/em><em>process<\/em><em>.<\/em><em>Work <\/em><em>is scheduled<\/em><em>to begin <\/em><em>in 2026<\/em><em>, in accordance with the timeline, and <\/em><em>is expected to be completed within two years<\/em><em>.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>&#8220;The<\/em> <em>expansion of the<\/em> <em>Academy of Fine Arts of L&#8217;<\/em> <em>Aquila,&#8221;<\/em> Mayor Biondi concluded, &#8221; <em>represents a strategic investment in the future of the city<\/em> <em>. In recent years, we have seen a significant increase in enrollment. These figures reflect a city<\/em> <em>increasingly<\/em> <em>attractive to young people and increasingly<\/em> <em>capable of engaging internationally, the result of a vision that places culture at its center as a primary, not ancillary, infrastructure. The<\/em> <em>Academy, with its history of experimentation and its ability<\/em> <em>to innovate languages \u200b\u200band skills,<\/em> <em>is one of the pillars of the<\/em> <em>contemporary city.
