The composer himself will conduct. Performing will be the Choir of the National Academy of Santa Cecilia, the Umbrian Philharmonic Orchestra, and actress Barbara Ronchi. The event will be filmed by RAI Cultura for national broadcast.   <\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">L&#8217;Aquila is hosting a world premiere that is set to go down in Italian musical history. As part of <\/span><b>I<\/b> <b>Cantieri dell\u2019Immaginario<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, one of the major highlights of the program for<\/span><b>L\u2019Aquila, Italian Capital of Culture 2026<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">program, <\/span><b>Nicola Piovani<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2014 composer and 1999 Academy Award winner for the soundtrack to <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">*Life Is Beautiful*<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> by Roberto Benigni \u2014 brings his <\/span><b><i>*Missa Pro Pace*<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">to L\u2019Aquila: a new work, commissioned specifically for this city and this year, which has never been performed in public before.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The event is sponsored by the <\/span><b>&#8220;Barattelli&#8221; Aquila Concert Society<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, to mark the<\/span><b>80th anniversary of its founding<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which took place on <\/span><b>July 18, 1946<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: exactly eighty years to the day.<\/span><\/p>\n[\/vc_column_text]<div class=\"vcex-spacing wpex-w-100 wpex-clear\"><\/div><style>.vcex-button.vcex_6a6d3abdd4562{background:var(--wpex-palette-147-color);}<\/style><div class=\"theme-button-wrap textcenter wpex-clr\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ciaotickets.com\/it\/biglietti\/nicola-piovani-missa-pro-pace-laquila\" class=\"vcex-button theme-button align-center inline vcex_6a6d3abdd4562\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span class=\"vcex-button-inner theme-button-inner wpex-flex wpex-flex-wrap wpex-items-center wpex-justify-center\">Buy tickets \u2192<\/span><\/a><\/div> <div class=\"vcex-spacing wpex-w-100 wpex-clear\"><\/div>[vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221;]\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>The &#8220;Missa Pro Pace&#8221;: What It Is and Why It&#8217;s Being Held in L&#8217;Aquila<\/b><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Missa Pro Pace<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is a composition for <\/span><b>soloists, narrator, choir, and orchestra<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> structured around the five canonical sections of the Mass\u2014 <\/span><b>Kyrie, Gloria, Sanctus, Benedictus, and Agnus Dei<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2014 without the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Creed<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, with a finale that gives the final word to peace: the traditional <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dona nobis pacem<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is not a liturgical Mass: it is, in Piovani\u2019s own words, <\/span><b>a secular mass<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2014 a civil and universal musical act, in which the traditional form serves as a vessel for a message that transcends religions and borders. The music is interspersed with <\/span><b>readings of texts selected from Pablo Neruda and Leo Tolstoy<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, recited by actress <\/span><b>Barbara Ronchi<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On the same evening, the <\/span><b><i>Prelude to the Canticle of the Creatures<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">will also be performed, with texts selected by Piovani incorporated as an integral part of the concert.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The connection between Piovani and L&#8217;Aquila did not begin with this commission. The composer had already written the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sinfonia delle Stagioni<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which was performed seven years ago to mark the tenth anniversary of the 2009 earthquake. This new work ties that thread together in the year that L\u2019Aquila is the Italian Capital of Culture.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;Thanks to Barattelli for giving me this opportunity,&#8221; said <\/span><\/i><b><i>Nicola Piovani<\/i><\/b><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">  during the presentation of the Cantieri dell&#8217;Immaginario program \u2014. He had asked me for a free-form work, in the vein of what had already happened seven years ago with the *Sinfonia delle Stagioni* for the tenth anniversary of the earthquake. It was I who proposed a Mass\u2014a *Messa Pro Pace*\u2014which, unfortunately, is sorely needed. I, for one, had felt this need for quite some time. We are musicians; we speak through our language and our craft, still writing with pen and paper. It is a secular Mass. The finale features the \u201cDona nobis pacem.\u201d The final word is \u201cPeace.\u201d&#8221;       <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>The Cast: Absolute Excellence<\/b><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The performance will be presented by a world-class ensemble, which has gathered in L&#8217;Aquila for this world premiere.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>On the podium: Nicola Piovani<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> conducts his own opera.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Orchestra:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the <\/span><b>&#8220;Vittorio Calamani&#8221;
