The City Council has approved the cultural project proposals contained in the dossier titled “L’Aquila: A Multiverse City,” which were selected by the oversight committee—which met for the first time on August 25—and will be funded through the one million euros allocated by the Ministry of Culture.

The cultural projects identified by the supervisory committee and approved by the City Council are as follows: Fall Seven Times, Get Up the Eighth (Giorgio De Marchis Bonanni d’Ocre Foundation); A Sparkle in the Shadows. Art, Underground Life, Crossings (Academy of Fine Arts); Recovery Sound Art (Abruzzo Symphony Institution); The Imaginary L’Aquila (Teatrozeta); Let’s Sow Art (Mubaq – Children’s Museums); “L’AquilArthe: The Person at the Center” (“Alfredo Casella” Conservatory of Music); “Music to Shape” (Bonaventura Barattelli Aquila Concert Society); “Cultural Residences” (Angelo De Nardis Association of Prata); Contemporary Art Resides in L’Aquila (Friends of MU6 Association); The Jazz Orchestra I’d Like (Teatro Opera Project Association); All the Necessary Superfluities (RICORDO Social Promotion Association); Democratic Opera + Public Program (Pistoletto Foundation); Sensitive Forms (Gran Sasso Science Institute); Stories to Start Over (Vesuvio Teatro); Sleep, Dream (Xplosiva Association – club to club); School of Performing Arts and Crafts (Teatro Stabile d’Abruzzo); Pre-Texts (Artisti per il Matta – Bach Center); Intertwining and Resonances (City of Rieti); Ver sacrum (City of Rieti); Architecture for Performance and Entertainment: Then and Now (City of Rieti); Cultural Hackathon – Creating Together (City of Rieti); Millennia in the Mountains (City of Rieti).

“This,” explains Pierluigi Biondi, mayor of L’Aquila, “is the first step in a process through which we will implement the initiatives outlined in the bid dossier—the very dossier that earned us the title of Italian Capital of Culture 2026. These projects will be funded with the resources that the MIC makes available to the winning city, while additional initiatives outlined in the document will be supported through other funding sources.”

Please note that, pending the appointment of additional members following the public notice approved by the agency, the committee is composed of: Pierluigi Biondi, mayor of L’Aquila (chair), Roberto Santangelo, Abruzzo Region Councilor for Culture, Vincenzo Rivera, head of the USR (Special Office for Reconstruction following the 2016 Earthquake), Raffaello Fico, head of the USRC (Special Office for Reconstruction of Municipalities in the 2009 Earthquake Crater), Salvo Provenzano, head of the USRA (Special Office for Reconstruction of L’Aquila), Emanuela Iorio and Daniele Ferella, vice chairs of the L’Aquila City Council; and Letizia Rosati, Councilor for Culture of the City of Rieti, assisted by Alessandro Crociata and Pier Luigi Sacco, who prepared and drafted the application dossier.
