Concert by the Micrologus Ensemble: Giullari di Dio. The Origins of the Italian Lauda
80th Season of the “Bonaventura Barattelli” Aquila Concert Society
The musicians of the Ensemble Micrologus were among the first to contribute to the rediscovery of medieval music and the spirit with which to perform this music today. The project, “Giullari di Dio. At the Origins of the Italian Lauda,” created for this occasion with the scientific guidance of musicologist Francesco Zimei, director of the European Research Council (ERC) Advanced Research Project “Laudare,” presents for the first time a musical reconstruction of St. Francis of Assisi’s Canticle of Brother Sun, marking the 800th anniversary of his death (1226), based on a new interpretation of its oldest sources along with a selection of recently rediscovered laudes, all dating from the late 12th to the first half of the 13th century.
