A special event marks the 80th season of the “B. Barattelli” Aquila Concert Society. The stars of the event arethe Ars Trio of Rome, a leading force in Italian chamber music, and the percussion ensemble Ars Ludi, winner of the prestigious Silver Lion at the 2022 Venice Music Biennale.
The program explores the 20th century through the themes of “quotation” and sonic memory. The opening features the genius of Charles Ives with his Trio, a work that blends classical and folk music in a revolutionary polyrhythmic composition. This is followed by the ethereal poetry of Tōru Takemitsu’s *Rain Tree*, a piece for three percussionists inspired by Japanese aesthetics, in which sound emerges from silence like raindrops.
The highlight of the evening is Dmitri Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 15, presented in Viktor Derevianko’s historic chamber music arrangement for trio and percussion. An enigmatic work, approved by the composer himself, in which references to Rossini and Wagner become clues to an intimate and allusive spiritual testament. An unmissable musical journey that combines tradition and experimentation in the heart of L’Aquila, the 2026 Capital of Culture.
