This is a polyphonic performance, a “recited song” featuring multiple voices and characters, written by the well-known Roman author Giuseppe Manfridi, in which Manuele Morgese takes on the roles of various characters—witnesses and narrators—of the terrible and dramatic events related to the Holocaust, during World War II. The actor’s voice, through the dark, haunting nursery rhymes, blends with the music of the trumpet and piano in Livio Galassi’s direction. The performance, presented as a “short reading,” premiered on Holocaust Remembrance Day 2019 in Auschwitz.
