The building originated from the merger and transformation of the Gaglioffi family’s medieval houses, which were later renovated into a magnificent architectural complex by the Benedetti family; even today, one can see the coexistence of the ancient medieval structures and the numerous, splendid reception rooms. The history of L’Aquila between the 19th and 20th centuries saw the palace as one of its driving forces, thanks in part to the Masonic temple that was long housed in its extraordinary frescoed hall.
