Open Houses – Cultural Residences
On Sunday, May 24, the National Day of Historic Homes returns throughout Italy, organized bythe Association of Italian Historic Homes (ADSI). In L’Aquila, the event takes on special significance, as it is part of the “Open Palaces – Cultural Residences” project, which brings dozens of historic palaces in L’Aquila into the network of the Capital of Culture. Thirty buildings across the city will open their doors for guided and self-guided tours, as well as historical reenactments, exhibitions, concerts, and conferences.
The event offers a unique opportunity to visit sites of extraordinary historical value—often inaccessible or off the beaten path—and to experience firsthand a heritage that constitutes Italy’s largest open-air museum. The theme chosen for the 2026 edition, “Guardians of the Future. A Living Heritage for a Shared Value,” highlights the fundamental role of protecting and promoting private historical and architectural heritage: cultural assets that preserve the identity of local areas and continue to generate cultural, social, and economic value for communities.
