As part of the program for L’Aquila, Italian Capital of Culture 2026, the city is hosting an event of extraordinary artistic and human significance: a concert by violinist Simon Zhu, dedicated to the memory of Fabrizio De Agostini Dragonetti de Torres, one year after his passing. The undisputed star of the evening is Simon Zhu, a prodigious talent born in 2001 who made international headlines for winning the prestigious 2023 “Paganini Prize” in Genoa, where he also received the special award for the best performance of a Paganini concerto.

Zhu’s career is marked by legendary successes, from his debut at the Berliner Philharmonie to collaborations with conductors of the caliber of Sir Antonio Pappano and Sir John Eliot Gardiner. Recently honored with an audience with King Charles III following a performance with the London Symphony Orchestra, Simon Zhu will bring to L’Aquila the refined technique he acquired at the Stauffer Academy in Cremona under the guidance of Salvatore Accardo. The audience will have the opportunity to hear an exceptional performer playing a rare 1760 Zosimo Bergonzi violin, in an evening that weaves together the memory of a pivotal figure in the community with the sublime beauty of the great international violin repertoire.
