A new chapter of the program has been unveiled
In light of the favorable assessments by the Supervisory Committee, the City Council approved the inclusion of the “Evento delle Accademie” exhibition project in the lineup of events scheduled for next year as part of L’Aquila 2026—Italian Capital of Culture.
The project aims to organize a thematic exhibition dedicated to contemporary sculpture, with the active participation of students and highly qualified faculty members from academies selected nationwide.
The lead organization and coordinator of the initiative will be the Academy of Fine Arts of L’Aquila, chaired by Rinaldo Tordera and directed by Marco Brandizzi, which—in agreement with the City—has identified five institutions as partners for the implementation and coordination of the artistic activities: those in Rome, Naples, Brera, Carrara, and Ravenna.
The Executive Committee also approved a draft agreement that will be signed by the parties following an initial selection process for the projects, in the spring of next year.
Specifically, the curatorial concept revolves around the theme “Action, Relationship, and Environment,” with the creation of works that incorporate various elements, including the use of materials and natural light, as well as the creation of interactive works that engage the public and are integrated into the urban landscape. The ultimate goal is to strengthen the role of art as a driver of territorial regeneration, supporting young artists and fostering inter-institutional cooperation in the spirit of culture and innovation.
“This adds an important piece to the mosaic of initiatives that will accompany L’Aquila on its journey toward 2026. The collaboration with some of Italy’s most prestigious academies not only highlights our city’s artistic and educational heritage but also represents a concrete opportunity for growth for young talents. L’Aquila is a laboratory of creativity and dialogue among the arts, a place with a wealth of talented people,” stated the mayor of L’Aquila, Pierluigi Biondi, who added:
Following the National Arts Award, the Academy will take center stage alongside five other prestigious Italian institutions, right here in L’Aquila. Please note that the full calendar of initiatives for the year as Capital of the Arts will be presented during a national event with the project’s institutions and strategic partners.
